Quick morning

IMG_7963

I awoke early this morning to the sound of deer foraging around my tent. After a little bit I noticed the light was starting to get brighter and I decided it was time to pack up and leave. The winds from the night were all but gone and it was a peaceful morning indeed. Before leaving the park I stopped for a few photos before the mosquitos ate me alive. After leaving the area I continued on toward Alamosa.… Read More

Sand Dune Evening

IMG_7942

This upcoming saturday is my friends wedding in Santa Fe, NM. So I decided to start my trip a few days early and go camping in the Sand Dunes. Upon arriving the winds were rather strong just setting up the tent alone was an ordeal. The family that had the campsite next to me were extremely nice and even invited me to have a late lunch with them. After getting to know my neighbors we walked on over to the… Read More

Dunes and Castle

After waking up just before sunrise we decided to head to the top of the High Dune (~750ft). After a tough, long climb we finally arrived at the top, just when the sun was rising over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the East. We spent quite a bit of time on top and took in the amazing beauty of Nature! After heading back to camp we packed up and headed back to Denver.
On our way back to Denver… Read More

Camping in San Luis Valley

IMG_7217

My Friend and I decided to go camping in the Great Sand Dunes this weekend. Knowing that winter was coming I knew that this would be one of the last, if not last, times for camping before it hit. After leaving Denver around noon we arrived in the park at about 4:00pm. Little did we know that the park was free that weekend but luckily we got a nice camping spot in the first loop. After taking a short stroll… Read More

Morning in the Valley

IMG_5728

Waking up before sunrise I quickly took down my tent and hopped in my Jeep. I took a quick detour along the medano pass road before leaving the park. I stopped at some antique shops in Fort Garland and decided to go for a drive to San Luis, CO by means of the Los Caminos Antiguos Scenic Byway. After checking the small town out I left for home. Overall a nice weekday trip to the valley!

Sand Dreams

IMG_5617

I decided at about noon today to go camping at the Great Sand Dunes in the San Luis Valley. After passing a large storm I finally entered the National Park. Once I had picked out a great camping spot I decided to hike up to the High Dune (~750ft). I started my hike by heading due south of the dunes, knowing that there would be little to no footprints in that area. A little while later I found myself on… Read More

San Luis Morning

Awaking early Saturday morning my Father and I decided to check out San Luis State Park. We were hoping to get a fantastic sunrise over the lakes but the clouds and storms didn’t let that happen. After spending some time in the park we back to the Sand Dunes.… Read More

Down to the Dunes

My family and I decided to head to the Great Sand Dunes in Southern Colorado early Friday morning. One of our first stops was the town of Walsenberg, where one can seen many old and abandoned structures. After leaving the town we spotted quite a few Pronghorns along the road. Luckily they didn’t seem to mind as I quickly snapped away! At La Veta Pass the fall foliage was really in full swing.
After a few more stops we were… Read More

Sand Dune Adventure

Untitled_Panorama6

My friend and I decided to head to the Great Sand Dunes on Saturday. We awoke relatively early and left Arvada around 5:30AM. Some 4 hours and 250+miles later we arrived at the entrance to the National Park. Being off-season we were the 3rd people to hit the dunes that day. After hiking for a bit we arrived at the top of “High Dune” which is 650ft/198m tall and the second tallest dune in the park. The temperatures were just… Read More
