Paint Morning

Late last night I decided to head to Calhan, CO for sunrise at Paint Mines Interpretive Park. The park has a lot of different types of rock formations, hoodoos (hat like formations), and grassland scenery. My Father joined me on this early morning trek and we left Arvada around 4:00AM. After about 100miles of driving we arrived in the small town of Calhan and headed to the park. The sunrise on this morning was beautiful! And a very cool breeze from the west made this morning even more pleasant. We saw a multitude of different type of flowers, birds, lizard, and a long tailed weasel! We left a few hours later and had breakfast in the town of Kiowa, CO. Overall it was a great day to get out and about!

Hoodoos and Such

Having the itch to get out and about again I decided late this morning to visit Paint Mines. I’ve been here about 3 different times but today I took a new route to Calhan by ways of Kiowa. After hiking around the park the weather was turning rather nasty. Luckily the storm passed without incident and the rest of the afternoon was perfect. I found some new areas and look forward to finding even more on my next visit.

This little trip was more on the side of just getting out rather than an “photo outting.” We first headed East from Denver to Limon the headed SW to Colorado Springs on Hwy 24.
